Joan was one of the first commercial agents that I worked with when I started in 1987. She is one of the first people I turn to when I have a question about anything involving commercial contracts, uses, ideas anything. JOAN MESSINGER has been an agent for quite a while - before cell phones, before the internet. She spent many of those early years with the Herb Tannen Agency and when Mr. Tannen closed his doors, she and her then partner moved the commercial department to Amsel, Eisenstadt, Frazier & Hinojosa as a subdivision, Pinnacle Talent.
Despite the many years spent getting opportunities for people to sell cereal and cars and phone services and lots more, she wasn't always an agent. After a false start at one of the country's foremost art schools and a small detour to travel the country with various orchestras, dance troupes, stage shows and, for part of several years, 24 singing boys in sailor suits, she found her true calling -commercials.
She has also been known to dabble in film, television, voice over, stage and some oddities that defy description but commercials have always been the prime focus. She especially enjoys sharing the professional tidbits she's picked up over the years with aspiring actors of all ages. She is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and an Emmy voter. For all the changes in the business (and there have been many!), the best part is still calling an actor to say "You booked it!"
